The only true way to find your tyre size is to look on the tyres’ sidewall.  Here is an example of a tyre size.  Ignore any letters e.g. R.  The tyre size below is 205/65 X 15.  Another example of tyre size is 31/10.5  R15  = 31/10.5 X 15 (usually found on bigger 4 wheel drives e.g. Hilux Surf)

 

 

205 = The tyre width in millimetres.

65 = The ratio of the height against the width (Profile)

15 = The diameter of the rim in inches

 

Note: In some cases the profile (middle number) is not present which equals 80.  e.g. 185 R14 is the same as 185/80 R14.

 

The only way to absolutely guarantee the snow chains are the correct fit is to try the chain on the tyre.

 

As a general rule:

 

>Front wheel drives, fit to front wheels

>Rear wheel drives, fit to rear wheels

>4 wheel drives, fit to front wheels

 

Refer to your car manual as some new SUVs/4WDs differ from situations above.
